The theme this week is your favourite. A classic conversation when discussing rap/hip hop as a genre is to crown a ”Top 5” of ones favourite rappers. Can’t say I feel the same conversation is as co-occurance in other genres. Maybe because rap is more of a one man show and hence easier to name a specific favourite compared to a rock group which consists of multiple members. Anyhow. This week we got some big names: Kanye West, Travis Scott, Offset, 21 Savage, Metro Boomin and then we got BIG K.R.I.T and Dave. Amongst all the greater ones, I would place the lesser known K.R.I.T on a favourite list. He’s lesser known due to a terrible and unlucky selection of label: his former label ruined his potential and career by not letting him release music he wanted to do and the type of music that made him popular in the first place. He’s now released from this contract and here we are: his first, independent album, and it’s great. I promote a lot of artists from the East and West coast, and I’m finally able to promote someone (else than Travis Scott) from the South, K.R.I.T. This newsletter is dedicated to him and his new album. And the track is as bouncy as can be.
The three other records are one with Offset, 21 Savage, Metro Boomin and Travis Scott where the first three dropped an album earlier this week. Pure quality throughout.
CyHi The Prynce, signee of Kanyes label G.O.O.D Music, has been around for a while and just released a new single with the label president, Kanye, as a feature. CyHi gained fame after being featured on Kanyes award winning album My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy. Apparently CyHi sneaked into the studio at night and recorded a verse on one of the tracks and Kanye found the verse so good he kept it.
Dave, a household name at Franklins Newsletter, released a new EP today. The British youngster keeps releasing and claiming the industry ladder.
